Donald Duck Four Color Comics #189 - Carl Barks 1940s dell comic book cover art
Walt Disney's Donald Duck / Four Color Comics v2 #189, 1948 - Making only his second appearance in comics, Uncle Scrooge asks Donald and crew to accompany him to his ancestral home in Scotland. Carl Barks' story is lovingly detailed throughout the book. Castle interiors, suits of armor, embattlements and more are rendered with great effort. The artist employs intricate textures on stone walls and wooden doors to convey and aged and crumbling setting. Additionally, Barks' does his first cover on the series and three single page gags inside. This story was was later reprinted in Best of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge #1 and Donald Duck Adventures #20. This is number 8 of 43 Donald Duck issues with Barks art and/or covers (not including reprints).
