The Thing v1 #12, 1954 - This eerie Steve Ditko cover (redrawn from an inside story panel) places three scenes respectively in the foreground, middle, and background. The result is an impressive level of depth and clear hierarchy of elements. Gradient hues added to the faces and figures further enhance Ditko's already striking image. Inside, his retelling of Cinderella is horrifically drawn, perhaps referencing the more gruesome aspects of the original European version. Other artists in this golden age comic include Dick Ayers, John Belfi and Anthony Tallarico.
