Tarzan v1 #121, 1960 - Fending off attackers and leading an army, young Queen Tavane defies convention in this proto-feminist Brothers of the Spear tale.
Russ Manning's work, as usual, is smoothly rendered and graceful. Among the artistic high points are the Queen's defiant portrait on page 2 (see interior page below) and the vista of an extinct volcano turned fortress (page 4 panel 5). This story was later reprinted in
Tarzan #198. Other artists in this silver age comic include Jesse Marsh (on Tarzan). Painted cover by George Wilson.
