Witching Hour #12 - Alex Toth, Wally Wood art

Witching Hour v1 #12, 1970 - Searching for a lost talisman, a young man confronts a powerful witch in Los Angeles to get it back. Alex Toth's eclectic works in some cases, such as the witch's dramatic first appearance (see interior page below), but other scenes seem lacking in information. His one full-page splash (page 6) is a chaotic mess of a layout. Even his intro page, which opens the issue, is more artfully drawn. Similarly disappointing is Wally Wood's tale of housewife lured into the occult. His inking over Gil Kane's pencils are scant, lacking detail in many panels. These artists have collaborated before with far better results. This is 10 of 10 Witching Hour issues by Toth and 1 of 2 Witching Hour issues by Wood. /// original Toth page / Toth gallery
