Conan the Barbarian v1 #21 marvel comic book cover art by Barry Windsor Smith
Barry Windsor Smith
Conan the Barbarian v1 #21, 1972 - An ancient rite is performed in the shadow of two monoliths, loosing an unspeakable creature hungry for a certain barbarian. Barry Smith's pencils are more unpolished than usual, made worse by the crude inking starting on page 7. Despite some exemplary panels here and there, overall faces and figures are distorted to the point of distraction. By contrast, Smith's cover of a triumphant Conan in the aftermath of battle is his finest to date. Though partially marred by too much text, the composition and details create a memorable and iconic scene. This is 19 of 22 Conan the Barbarian issues by Smith. /// Smith gallery

This is the infamous "lost in the mail" issue. The original art vanished and this rush job/group effort was the result.
