Ben-Hur / Four Color v2 #1052 - Russ Manning art + Specialty issue

Four Color v2 #1052
Ben-Hur v1 / Four Color v2 #1052, 1959 - Adapting the MGM movie of the same name, Russ Manning opens the story with a spacious full page splash. The title typography mimics the grandeur of the film's dimensional logo. Interestingly, Manning doesn't attempt to render the likeness of lead actor Charlton Heston, but opts for his own interpretation of the character. Throughout the pages, the artist faithfully captures the beauty, splendor and violence of ancient Rome. The climactic chariot race scene (pages 27-30) is an abridged version of the film but no less exciting. This is 1 of 1 Ben-Hur issues by Manning. /// key Specialty issue (movie) / original page

Don't think Charlton Heston allowed his likeness on any of the comic adaptations of his movies.
George Tuska had to redraw Heston's "Taylor" character for the Planet of the Apes adaptation because it looked too much like Heston!

In the Classics Illustrated version of THE BUCCANEER (1958), Andrew Jackson is pretty much spot-on Charlton Heston, square jaw and squinty eye, as he was in the movie.

The Classics Illustrated version of the 1958 movie, THE BUCCANEER, definitely had Chuck Heston realistically drawn, in his role as Andrew Jackson.
