The Shadow v2 #4 |
The Shadow v2 #4, 1973 - In pursuit of the leaders of a bootlegging operation, a lead brings the Shadow to New York City's Bowery district. Michael Kaluta provides the artwork, but it appears
Bernie Wrightson inked part of the opening splash. His brushwork is fairly obvious on the Shadow himself, while the rest of the page is Kaluta's handiwork (see interior page below). No evidence of Wrightson appears anywhere else in the story, as far as I can tell. Note that the artist inked the entire story in just the previous issue (
#3) with spectacular results. This is 2 of 2
Shadow v2 issues by
Wrightson.

Kaluta has the help of three additional inkers assisting on this issue and the pages on which they work are listed on the splash page on the truck's license plates.
"SFH 1-2-3-4": Stephen Hickman inks parts of Pages 1 through 4. (he is also referenced on the highway sign post.)
"WRIGHTS 1-15": Wrightson inks parts of Pages 1 "and" 15 (but not 1 "through" 15). On Page 15, I see him in panels 1 & 3 and possibly panel 4 as well. Curious, what do "you" think?
"CHAYKIN 8-9-10: Chaykin assists on inks parts of Pages 8, 9, and 10.
Thanks for the additional info! I did not know about the license plates. Onpage 15, I agree Wrightson inked panels 1 and 3 but probably not 4. I see faces and figures on other pages that are suspect, but since he and Kaluta had similar styles it's hard to be sure. Since the license plate says 1 and 15, I tend to believe those are Wrightson's only pages.
