Western Fighters #11 - Al Williamson / Frank Frazetta art

Western Fighters v1 #11, 1949 - A quaint story tells of how the term "maverick" was originated in the pioneer days of Texas. This early collaboration by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta is a nice pairing of artistic styles, but far less distinctive than their later works. The opening panel presents the arrival of a covered wagon but little else to incite interest. The scene is too minimal, squandering an opportunity to give readers a better sense of the frontier era. Frazetta's inks offer only a marginal improvement over Williamson's pencils. This story was later reprinted in the book Al Williamson Forbidden Worlds. Other artists in this issue include Al McWilliams and Paul Reinman. This is 1 of 1 Western Fighters issue by Frazetta and 1 of 1 Western Fighters issue by Williamson.
