(Walt Disney's) Summer Magic v1 #NN (no number) / 10076-309 on cover, 1963 - Based on the Walt Disney film of the same name, the cover features a photo of one of the studio child actor Hayley Mills. A small family falls on hard times, forcing them to move from the city to a small country town. Russ Manning, a veteran of several movie adaptations, produces one of his finer silver age efforts in this one-shot issue. His attentiveness to the period setting (early 1900s) manifests itself nicely in the clothing, interiors and automobiles. The opening scene is a bit mundane for my taste, but a few large panels throughout help break up the monotony. In the final panel of a housewarming party, Manning uses a birds-eye viewpoint, giving readers a broader scope of the environment.
