Joe Kubert |
Showcase v1 #57 featuring Enemy Ace, 1965 - Not only does this issue mark the character's fourth appearance, but his first solo book as well.
Joe Kubert's dramatic cover is partially diminished by the abundant text, but he more than compensates on the interiors. Enemy Ace meets his match in a Canadian fighter pilot known as the Hunter. The artist draws each aerial dogfight with a palpable enthusiasm. On page 19, burning Allied planes fall like leaves around a display of war trophies. This clever metaphor conveys the human cost behind Enemy Ace's reputation. This story was later reprinted in
Star Spangled War Stories #154 and
#155. Other artists in this silver age comic include Bob Oksner. This is 8 of 19

This is an odd question. In Showcase #53-54, Joe Kubert drew (and I think wrote as well) six stories about American GIs in WWII and DC asked readers to vote on which of those was the bravest (or something). I'm trying to find the issue (or issues) that printed the results. I'm hoping you can tell me if either this or the follow up issue has those results. Any help you can provide is appreciated.
Thanks, - P
P.S. I can also help you get a look at those two issues, which it doesn't look like you have on your site.
