Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #54 - Carl Barks art

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #54
Walt Disney's Comics and Stories v1 #54, 1945 - Donald Duck challenges his nephews to an ice skating race, following the frozen river and ending at the stone bridge in Pumpkinburg. Carl Barks uses an idyllic, snowy landscape to contrast against the frenetically racing figures. Despite the fast pace, the imagery overall maintains a calm serenity. Barks' page designs continue to improve with each subsequent issue. Other artists in this golden age comic include Al Taliaferro. Cover by Walt Kelly. This is 23 of 280 Walt Disney's Comics and Stories issues by Barks.
