Detective Comics #496 - Don Newton art

Detective Comics #496
Detective Comics v1 #496, 1980 - Basil Karlo, the original Clayface, escapes from an asylum to wreck havoc at the First International Horror Film Exposition. This marks the villain's first appearance since the golden age. Don Newton's work contains a touch of nostalgia, giving Alfred Hitchcock and Bela Lugosi their due. His distinctive lighting looks especially appropriate given the plot. Dan Adkins, with his supple inking, proves why he's the perfect collaborator. Other artists in this copper age comic include Jose Delbo and Bob Smith. Cover by Jim Aparo. This is 16 of 39 Detective Comics issues by Newton.
