Strange Tales #115 - Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko cover, Ditko art

Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko
Strange Tales v1 #115, 1963 - Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko collaborations are typically better than the sum of their parts, but in this case their cover is largely mediocre. Ditko fares better on his solo story, presenting Dr. Strange's origin for the first time. Despite the repetitive nine-panel grid, the artist does an admirable job depicting the hero's beginnings. The artwork is clear and concise in its storytelling. This tale was later reprinted in Marvel Premiere #11Other artists in this issue include Don Heck. See today's posts or more Ditko, Kirby or Strange Tales issues. See also this blog's Ditko checklist or Kirby checklist.
