Alpha Flight #5 - John Byrne art & cover

John Byrne
Alpha Flight v1 #5, 1983 - Introduced in the first issue, the mutant dwarf Puck stars in a solo adventure. The exuberant cover gives a glimpse into his abilities and personality. John Byrne does a capable job with depicting ordinary people in mundane settings (in this case, a hospital and a warehouse). His artistry does come to fore on the action scenes (see interior page above), using the same multi-figure sequencing seen on the cover. Byrne also includes a back-up tale, chronicling the early days of Michael Twoyoungmen (Shaman). This is number 5 of 28 Alpha Flight issues with Byrne art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Byrne or Alpha Flight issues. See also this blog's Byrne checklist.
