Amazing Spider-man #16 - Steve Ditko art & cover

Steve Ditko

Amazing Spider-man v1 #16, 1964
- Meeting Daredevil for the first time, Spider-man attacks him while under the Ringmaster's hypnotic control. Interestingly, this occurs before DD's adoption of his completely red costume. Steve Ditko's cover displays the characters with equal prominence, while opting for a minimal background. On the story itself, the artist begins with a stunning splash page, depicting Spidey fighting against an array of villains. Perhaps due to the big top environment, Ditko's drawings seem more lively than usual. The variety of circus performers, along with trapeze nets and barbells, contribute to interesting images and sequences. This story (reprinted in Giant-size Spider-man #3) is Daredevil's first crossover appearance outside his own title. This is 16 of 38 Amazing Spider-Man issues by Ditko.
