Marvel Fanfare #20 - Jim Starlin art & cover

Jim Starlin
Marvel Fanfare v1 #20, 1985 - Captured by his foe Xandu, Doctor Strange summons the Thing to help him save the world from impeding doom. Three full-page splashes and several large panels (see interior page below) provide ample room for Jim Starlin's kinetic drawings. Unfortunately, Al Milgrom's inks lack both clarity and effort. The sheer variety of demons and mystical settings provide plenty of visual interest, but not enough to salvage this mediocre effort. Starlin's cover design is more representative of the artist's talent. Other artists in this copper age comic include Charles Vess and Carlo Potts. This is 1 of 2 Marvel Fanfare issues by Starlin.
