Avengers #181 - John Byrne art

Avengers #181
Avengers v1 #181, 1979 - In order to get their national security clearance back, the Avengers must agree to a new roster dictated by the US government. The Falcon subsequently joins the team. John Byrne returns to the series, doing a lengthier run than before. His pencils are most engaging on the opening scenes, where Wonder Man and the Beast stroll along city streets. Gene Day's inks can be overpowering, but mostly enhance the finished art. Byrne's intentionally crowded splash on page 7 is more or less replicated from George Perez's fine cover. Note that Scott Lang's three panel cameo precedes his full appearance in Marvel Premiere #47. This is 4 of 17 Avengers issues by Byrne. /// Byrne gallery
