Somerset Holmes #1 - Al Williamson art

Somerset Holmes v1 #1, 1983 - Al Williamson begins illustrating the back-up feature, starring a soldier of fortune named Cliff Hanger. In this first chapter, a female scientist crash lands her plane while surveying the South America jungles. While the "cinematic" effects on page 1 are largely ineffective, the rest of the story is studiously researched and deftly drawn. Williamson pays extra attention to the depictions of native flora and fauna on pages 4-5 (see interior page below). Other artists in this issue include Brent Anderson. This is number 1 of 6 Somerset Holmes issues with Williamson art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Williamson or Somerset Holmes issues. See also this blog's Al Williamson checklist.
