Somerset Holmes #1 - Al Williamson art + 1st appearance

Somerset Holmes #1
Somerset Holmes v1 #1, 1983 - Created by Bruce Jones and Brent Anderson, Somerset Holmes is a woman with no memory of her past yet pursued by criminals. The film noir quality of the story has a definitive eighties flair. Al Williamson begins drawing the back-up feature, starring a soldier of fortune named Cliff Hanger. In this first chapter, a female scientist crash lands her plane while surveying the South America jungles. While the "cinematic" effects on page 1 are largely ineffective, the rest of the story is studiously researched and deftly drawn. Williamson pays extra attention to the depictions of native flora and fauna on pages 4-5 (see interior page below). This is 1 of 6 Somerset Holmes by Williamson. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover Somerset Holmes, 1st appearance Cliff Hanger, 1st issue
