Savage Sword of Conan #1 |
Savage Sword of Conan v1 #1, 1974 - Red Sonja appears in her first solo story since her debut in Conan #23. Upon entering an unfamiliar city, the she-devil with a sword is captured and assigned to the king's brothel. Esteban Maroto's capable pencils are inked by several members of the "Crusty Bunkers". Prominent among these is Neal Adams, who appears to have delineated most of the main characters. His handiwork adds modeling and depth to several scenes but not significantly enough to stand out. This story was reprinted in Marvel Feature v2 #1 (first time in color) and SSOC #83. Also included in this issue is “The Frost Giant's Daughter”, a Barry Smith tale from Savage Tales #1. Cover painting by Boris Vallejo. This is 1 of 6 Savage Sword of Conan issues by Adams. /// key 1st issue, 1st solo story Red Sonja
