Fightin' Marines v1 #6, 1952 - Finding out that the general loves gardening, Canteen Kate concocts an idea that will put Al in his good graces. As usual,
Matt Baker seamlessly combines humor and realism in a military setting. Interestingly, Canteen Kate's
own series is promoted in text above the story pages. This light-hearted tale is contrasted by Baker's gripping cover of entrenched GIs. Dark and textural, the scene has an almost photojournalistic quality. The cover was later reprinted in
Fightin' Marines #16. Other artists in this golden age war comic include Gene Colan. This is 6 of 11
