Fightin' Marines #6 - Matt Baker art & cover

Matt Baker
Fightin' Marines v1 #6, 1952 - Finding out that the general loves gardening, Canteen Kate concocts an idea that will put Al in his good graces. As usual, Matt Baker seamlessly combines humor and realism in a military setting. Interestingly, Canteen Kate's own series is promoted in text above the story pages. This light-hearted tale is contrasted by Baker's gripping cover of entrenched GIs. Dark and textural, the scene has an almost photojournalistic quality. The cover was later reprinted in Fightin' Marines #16. This is number 6 of 11 Fightin' Marines issues with Baker art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts, more Baker, Canteen Kate or Fightin' Marines issues. See also this blog's Matt Baker checklist.
