House of Secrets v1 #103, 1972 - In a post-nuclear world, a young man seeks to find others like himself, untainted by the radiation that turned others into deformities. The sharp, jagged illustrations of
Alex Nino create a painfully desolate future. His layouts and sequences are perfectly composed, offsetting some of the more unnerving imagery. On
Bernie Wrightson's cover, the series host is illuminated by an extinguishing candle. The minimal color palette heightens shape and contrast, resulting in a masterful portrait. Other artists in this bronze copper age comic include Rico Rival, Jack Sparling and Sergio Aragonés. This is 2 of 11
