Bernie Wrightson |
House of Secrets v1 #100, 1972 - Strangely enough, this comic has no designation as a special one hundredth issue. Bernie Wrightson's terrifying cover depicts a man disturbed by zombies in the dead of night. Light and dark are masterfully distributed to maximize depth. Note how the bedsheet's radial pattern suggests the victim's horror. My only criticism is the somber color palette, appropriate but unappealing. This issue also includes artwork by Tom Palmer, Sergio Aragones, Mike Sekowsky, Tony DeZuniga and Alfredo Alcala. This is 7 of 11 House of Secrets issues by Wrightson. /// key Milestone issue / Wrightson gallery / original cover

I think of all Wrightson covers this is my favorite of all. I was fortunate to run into this issue some years back at a second hand store mixed in with some other horror books and it's the one I think I will never get rid of. It is very goulish which I love of his style of art. just an outstanding cover.
