Who Is Next #5 - Alex Toth art

Who Is Next v1 #5, 1953 - A troubled teen named Johnny becomes more paranoid and violent over time. His fixation with his boss' daughter soon leads to murder. Alex Toth's story marks an early use of loose, impressionistic lines in his work. Some of the faces are slightly distorted (page 7 panel 4, among others), but overall the art has a strong sense of movement. Just as impressive are the page and panel layouts, precisely drawn to maximize mood and storytelling. Toth's depiction of realistic stories is rarely matched by his peers. This story was later reprinted in Seduction of the Innocent #3. Other artists in this issue include Mike Sekowsky, Nick Cardy and Ross Andru. This is number 1 of 1 Who Is Next issues with Toth art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Toth or Who Is Next issues. See also this blog's Alex Toth checklist.
