Lovers #81 |
Lovers v1 #81, 1956 - After a near-miss accident, a wealthy coed finds herself rescued by a nice, working class guy.
Matt Baker's artwork is thoughtful and sensitively applied. Dramatic lighting is used sparingly, but effectively in key scenes throughout the story. The late night incident looks especially serious in darkness and shadow (see interior page below). Other small details (such as a friend's abrupt departure on page 5) contribute to this gem of a romance tale. Other artists in this issue include Jay Scott Pike, Al Hartley, Mike Sekowsky and Vince Colletta. This is 4 of 6

Cover pencils could be Baker as well, or maybe Colletta (definitely Colletta inks). The whole image seems cropped.
