Eerie v3 #58

6.  Eerie v3 #58, 1974 - Hired by a university, George Summers investigates the rumors of a legendary sea monster at Pepper Lake. Finally seeing the creature firsthand, his greed and ambition takes over. Magnificently drawn by Bernie Wrightson, the story swells with intricate details. The full page splash of the monster (page 2) is dramatic and breathtaking. Mostly devoid of text and dialogue, there's a distinctive painterly quality. Other scenes, depicting complex underwater netting (page 5) and the hunter's own grandiose plans (page 8) are nearly equally impressive. Overall, the tale exemplifies Wrightson's mastery of the horror genre. This story was later reprinted in Creepy #113 and Berni Wrightson Master of the Macabre #1. Other artists in this issue include Manuel Sanjulian, Vincente Alcazar, Esteban Maroto and Leopold Sanchez. This is 2 of 14 Eerie issues by Wrightson. /// Top 10 Wrightson comics
