Phantom Stranger v2 #3 - Neal Adams cover

Neal Adams
Phantom Stranger v2 #3, 1969 - After a successful reintroduction in Showcase #80, DC launches this enigmatic character's second series. Neal Adams' cover portrays a cloaked figure pulling a boy from a merry-go-round while the Phantom Stranger rushes to his aid. The artist employs the same kind of eerie approach he used on other mystery titles. The spontaneity of the drawing implies the movement of the carousel. Note how the hero's face is unobscured by shadow, contrasting against the masthead and later renditions of the character. This is number 1 of 17 Phantom Stranger issues with Adams art and/or covers. 2. This is one of my favorite DC horror titles... Neal Adams really produced a great run of covers for this series.
