Balder the Brave #1 - Walt Simonson cover

Walt Simonson
Balder the Brave v1 #1, 1985 - One of the more interesting supporting characters from Thor, Balder the Brave solos for the first time in his own limited series. Walt Simonson provides a somewhat busy but splendid cover for the premiere issue, including what seems to be a new (Jack Kirby-inspired?) costume design. Sadly, his contribution ends there as the story pages are tasked to Sal Buscema. This is number 1 of 4 Balder the Brave issues with Simonson art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Simonson or Balder the Brave issues. See also this blog's Walt Simonson checklist.

  1. This cover is fantastic, however I think it loses a few points from me due to the awkward positioning of Balder's right leg/knee.
