Plop #16 - Wally Wood cover, Steve Ditko / Wally Wood art

Plop #16, 1975 - Wally Wood continues the odd menagerie of weird characters on every cover of Plop. Interestingly, he suppresses his own style and mimics Basil Wolverton's earlier works on the title. Inside, he pairs up with Steve Ditko to illustrate a love story between an unlovable man and his dandelion. Steve Skeates' humorous script is enhanced by numerous well-executed sight gags. Wood's penchant for beautiful women is also present, reinforcing the irony of the story (see interior page shown above). As usual, the collaboration of these two artists rarely disappoints. Other artists in this issue include Ric Estrada, Sergio Aragones and others. This is number 4 of 11 Plop issues with Wood art and/or covers and number 1 of 1 Plop issues with Ditko art and/or covers.
