Journey Into Unknown Worlds #55 - Al Williamson art

Journey Into Unknown Worlds #55
Journey Into Unknown Worlds v1 #55, 1957 - Exiled in the frozen arctic, a ruthless dictator forms an unlikely army. Bill Everett's cover depicts them as ice creatures, although there are prehistoric cavemen in the story. Al Williamson and Ralph Mayo illustrate this tale with dependable craft and skill. Confined to only four pages, the artwork employs many panels yet the pacing doesn't fell rushed or erratic. With the exception of the first page (see inset above), the scenes abound with carefully managed and meticulous detail. This story was later reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell #38. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jack Abel, Reed Crandall, Bob Forgione, John Forte and Don Heck. This is 2 of 3 Journey Into Unknown Worlds issues by Williamson.
