Alex Toth |
Joe Yank v1 #8, 1952 - Two American soldiers pummel their Communist counterparts on this unabashedly patriotic
Alex Toth cover (how one was able to climb up on the shoulders of the enemy seems more playful than serious). The small circles conveying points of impact are characteristic of the artist's work, but also appear tame compared to the brutality of other war comics. These reservations aside, Toth's keen draftsmanship is still a sight to behold, standing out from other silver age covers of the era. Other artists in this golden age comic include Mike Sekowsky, Aldo Rubano, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. This is 3 of 4
