Frontline Combat #8 |
Frontline Combat v1 #8, 1952 -
Wally Wood's lavishly detailed story chronicles the life of Julius Caesar. In the first scene, the artist depicts him in heroic yet majestic fashion. Subsequent pages are overflowing with Roman regalia and weaponry. By contrast,
Alex Toth's tale of a fighter pilot during the Korean War is quietly spare (see interior page below). Panels are open and spacious, appropriate enough given the theme. Both stories were later reprinted in
Frontline Combat v2 #8. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jack Davis and John Severin. Cover by Harvey Kurtzman. This is 1 of 2
