House of Mystery v1 #256, 1978 - On this Halloween cover, Cain holds a demonic pumpkin that resembles the cover of Secrets of Haunted House #5. Both are exceptional works by Bernie Wrightson, whose fine brushwork is evident in throughout the scene. Even the eerie coloration adds to its overall appeal. Alex Nino employs more lines than usual in his tale of a French artist whose frightful work comes to life. His opening page appears overworked but more typical work follows. The most memorable scene depicts one of the artist's nightmarish paintings, filling the entire page for full effect (see interior page below).
