Valor #5 - Wally Wood art & cover, Al Williamson art

Wally Wood
Valor v1 #5, 1955 Wally Wood delivers his second outstanding cover for this series. A desert scene shows an oncoming attack while an army awaits patiently. The details on the camel heads are as impressive as the central figure. Wood's opening story, set in ancient Rome, shows a comparably fine effort (see interior reprint page below). The medieval knights story by Al Williamson falters a bit, mostly from the heavy handed inks of George Evans. A fine artist in his own right, Evans tends to overpower the pencils in this case. Both stories were later reprinted in Valor v2 #5. Other artists in this golden age comic include Bernie Krigstein and Graham Ingels.
