House of Mystery #247 |
House of Mystery v1 #247, 1976 - A big game hunter travels to India, only to have a curse put upon him.
Steve Ditko gets the opportunity to draw a plethora of wild animals, and his elephants are surprisingly good. Interestingly, his pencils are softened by inker Wayne Howard, an artist who frequently emulated Wally Wood. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Jess Jodloman. This is 2 of 6

Do you happen to know who did the cover? I really dig it.
I'm not as familiar with artists not showcased here, but during the mid 1970s DC primarily used Filipino artists for their covers (cheaper to outsource). Looking at the figures, my guess would be either Ernie Chan (Filipino) or Bill Draut (not Filipino). Anyone else out there want to weigh in?
Grand Comics Database lists Jack Sparling (Pencils) and Vince Colletta (Inks). For comparison check out Sparling's Fighting Cave-Females panel at lambiek: http://lambiek.net/artists/s/sparling_jack.htm (primitive woman had not yet invented the top of the bikini).
