Secrets of Haunted House #44 - Bernie Wrightson cover

Bernie Wrightson
Secrets of Haunted House v1 #44, 1982 - A lone man fights his way through a gauntlet of monsters. Bernie Wrightson showcases his precise brushwork within a dynamically tilted layout. Cleverly, the jack-o-lantern's face casts a glow on the ground for an added aesthetic. Note that the artist's signature (below left) dates the illustration ten years prior to the publication date. The interior corresponding story was evidently completed later to match the cover, but suffers greatly by comparison. Although Wrightson's cover was done much earlier, it still outshines the rest of the book. Other artists in this issue include Adrian Gonzales, Dick Ayers, Vic Catan and Fred Carrillo. This is number 2 of 2 Secrets of Haunted House issues with Wrightson art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Wrightson or Secrets of Haunted House issues.
