Canteen Kate #1 - Matt Baker art & cover

Canteen Kate #1, 1952 - One of the few female military characters, Canteen Kate first appeared in Fightin' Marines. Her comedic circumstances and adventures often showed the lighter side of army life. Matt Baker, known for his femme fatales and beautiful women, presents her as an attractive tomboy with an implied sensuality. His cover uses a montage preview of the interiors, composed in a sensible layout. All four stories are lovingly drawn, especially the facial expressions of the characters. This is number 1 of 3 Canteen Kate issues with Baker art and/or covers. See today's posts, more Baker or Canteen Kate issues. See also this blog's Baker checklist.
