Tarzan of the Apes #177 |
Tarzan of the Apes v1 #177, 1968 - While Tarzan becomes a guest of a lost civilization of knights, a group of arabs attack seeking their fabled treasure.
Russ Manning's last issue on the series has both high and low points. Two panels in particular, a vista of medieval castle (page 4) and a knightly joust (page 7) are bold and spacious. After the first 12 pages, however, the art begins to decline. More than likely, inker Mike Royer took over the pencilling chores on the last 9 pages. While he would become a formidable inker in just a few years, here he shows his lack of experience. This issue begins to adapt Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan Lord of the Jungle. Other artists in this silver age adventure comic include Tom Massey. Cover by George Wilson. This is 132 of 132
