Chamber of Chills v2 #3, 1973 -
Frank Brunner illustrates his second Robert E. Howard adaptation, about a fabulous jewel stolen from an ancient pre-Columbian temple. The greedy explorer brings it back to his crumbling, isolated mansion, perfectly captured by the artist. Brunner's opening splash page is especially effective, depicting a visitor's ominous approach to the house. His figure is framed by a barren tree. The fluid, undulating branches suggest the chill of the wind. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Bill Everett, Don Heck and Ernie Chua. This is 2 of 3
