Donald Duck / Four Color Comics #62 - Carl Barks art

Donald Duck FC #62
Walt Disney's Donald Duck / Four Color Comics #62, 1945 - Flying north, Donald and company bring much needed penicillin to a remote Alaskan hospital. Carl Barks continues to develop his pacing and layouts with marginal improvement. Some panels seem too similar on the same page, while others are minimally drawn. Like Four Color Comics v2 #9, could this story been derived from cartoon storyboards? By contrast, Barks' second feature shows the emergence of finer details and more carefully crafted sequences. Donald and the boys delve into the Florida Everglades, finding a community of pygmies called the Gneezles. Flora and fauna are nicely illustrated, enhancing the settings. Equal in length to the opening story, the artwork is decidedly warmer and more inviting. Both stories were first reprinted in Best of Walt Disney Comics #96170. "Frozen Gold" was later reprinted in Donald Duck Adventures #4, while "Mystery of the Swamp"was reprinted in Donald Duck Adventures #7. This is 3 of 42 Donald Duck issues by Barks.
