Barry Windsor Smith |
6. X-men v1 #186, 1984 - Deprived of her powers, Storm convalesces in the spacious abode of her fellow mutant Forge. Rogue's fight against the Dire Wraiths provide plenty of action, but most of this special double-sized issue focuses on the interactions and emotions between Storm and Forge. Barry Smith's neoclassical style seems perfect for the subtleties and complexities of the story. His passive, yet intriguing cover leads into sequences of beautiful renderings. Just as potent are his exquisite pacing and layouts. Note that Smith returns to the title where his first published work appeared (X-men #53). This is 4 of 9 X-men issues with Smith. /// Top 10 Smith comics / Smith gallery / original page sketch
