Thor #179 - Neal Adams cover, Jack Kirby art

Thor v1 #179 marvel comic book cover art by Neal Adams
Neal Adams
Thor v1 #179, 1970 - Loki devises a plan to exchange his appearance with that of Thor, allowing him to run amok on Earth. Stylistically, Jack Kirby's art is more consistent with earlier issues, suggesting that this story was completed earlier than the publication date. Other pages (page 6,14-20) look suspiciously current, perhaps last minute additions (with inks other than Vince Colletta?). Regardless, the artwork falls far short of expectations. Neal Adams draws his only cover for the series, an adequate precursor to the two following issues he would illustrate. This is number 53 of 61 Thor issues with Kirby art and/or covers and number 1 of 3 Thor issues with Adams art and/or covers. 1. Not bad but Neal Adams is no Kirby/Colletta.

  2. The hastily drawn city in the background does not meet Adam's standards. Plus the perspective lines on the sidewalk that Thor is standing on are a little wacky.
