Planet of the Apes #3 - Mike Ploog art

Planet of the Apes #3
Planet of the Apes v1 #3, 1974 - Entering a vast network of caverns, Jason and Alex must contend with both their gorilla pursuers and the underground mutant denizens. Mike Ploog's artwork lacks the clarity of previous issues, just as Frank Chiramonte takes over the inking chores. Still, Ploog delivers an eclectic yet fully engaging work. The scenes of a primitive arena (pages 22-27) showcase some of the artist's most creatively grotesque creatures. Rounding out the issue are photo galleries from the Planet of the Apes tv show and a Roddy McDowell interview. Other artists in this issue include George Tuska and Mike Esposito. Cover by Bob Larkin. This is 3 of 10 Planet of the Apes issues by Ploog. /// Ploog gallery
