Astonishing Tales #2 - Jack Kirby, Wally Wood art

Astonishing Tales v1 #2 featuring Ka-Zar and Dr. Doom, 1970 - Ka-Zar arrives in New York City, his savagery standing out among the populace. Jack Kirby does a nice job with the opening splash, emphasizing the contrast in a bustling hotel lobby. Inexplicably, Ka-Zar's face has been modified by another artist on pages 4-5, breaking consistency. In the second feature, Dr. Doom's android runs amok in his own country of Latveria. Wally Wood's efforts are initially stiff, but improves as the story progresses. His action scenes attract the most interest, especially the Doomsman's head-on collision with a tank (page 5). Other artists in this issue include John Buscema (cover). This is number 2 of 2 Astonishing Tales issues with Kirby art and/or coversand number 2 of 4 Astonishing Tales issues with Wood art and/or covers.
