John Byrne
X-Men v1 #132, 1980 - Infiltrating the private party of the Hellfire Club, Cyclops, Phoenix, Storm and Colossus look for a connection with the their foe, the White Queen. A cadre of members reveal themselves as evil mutants, while turning Jean Grey against the X-men. The opulent mansion and Victorian-era clothing make for an unusual yet interesting setting. John Byrne handles it all with great skill. These contrast with earlier scenes in the wide open spaces of Arizona (see interior page below). Still, the most memorable panel occurs at the end, as a livid Wolverine emerges from the sewers. This is number 24 of 35 X-men issues with Byrne art and/or covers.
