John Byrne |
X-Men v1 #129, 1980 - Wolverine, Storm and Colossus accompany Professor X to Chicago to locate a newly detected mutant. At the same time, the Hellfire Club is intent on their capture. John Byrne does his first cover in a while, replicating one of interior scenes. Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost make their first appearances in this issue, a contrast between innocence and sexuality. The artist portrays both with consummate skill. Byrne's drawing of a rain-drenched tarmac on page one is excellent, but equally deft are Kitty's innocent wide-eyed expressions (see interior page below). In a subsequent issue, she adopts the code name Sprite. Written by Chris Claremont, this is 21 of 35 X-men issues by Byrne. /// key 1st appearance Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost
