House of Mystery v1 #207, 1972 - An old woman is murdered by a skeletal fiend on one of
Bernie Wrightson's best horror covers. Note how the background curtains and grandfather clock are lushly rendered, adding gravity to the scene. His opening splash is nearly as good, humorously presenting the series host as Indian fakir (see interior page below).
Jim Starlin's tale is amusing but poorly drawn, revealing his inexperience at the time (this story was later reprinted in
Best of DC #63). Other artists in this bronze age comic include Bill Payne and Jack Sparling. This is 1 of 3
