House of Mystery #206 - Bernie Wrightson art

House of Mystery v1 #206, 1972 - Aside from a brief C.F. Payne story, this collection of stories is hardly worth mentioning. Bernie Wrightson distinguishes the issue with a single opening splash of series host Cain (see interior page below). Exquisitely rendered and meticulously detailed, the artist's brushwork is at its finest. Wrightson's immense talent is painfully evident on this and other opening splashes for both House of Mystery and House of Secrets. This page was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #2. Other artists in this issue include Ernesto Patricio and Mike Sekowsky. This is number 15 of 27 House of Mystery issues with Wrightson art and/or covers. 1. That looks like the Swamp Thing in the background of the splash page. A lot of fans have probably overlooked that early appearance!

  2. There is a resemblance, but looks like just a hooded figure to me...
