House of Mystery #203 - Nestor Redondo, Bernie Wrightson art

House of Mystery v1 #203, 1972 - Nestor Redondo's lengthiest DC tale yet tells of a crooked real estate tycoon and a rotund, mysterious old woman. Nicely illustrated in his classical style, the story's highlight is a montage panel of a skyscraper being built over time (page 6). On Bernie Wrightson's opening splash, Cain and his pet gargoyle entertain children at an aviary. Sumptuously drawn, the lighthearted tone contrasts against the somber tone of the stories. Other artists in this issue include Russ Heath, Jack Sparling and Tony Dezuniga. Wrightson's splash page was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #2 and Welcome Back to the House of Mystery #1. This is number 12 of 27 House of Mystery issues with Wrightson art and/or covers and number 4 of 16 House of Mystery issues with Redondo art and/or covers.
