Avengers annual v1 #7, 1977 - Building on Jim Starlin's plots from Warlock and Captain Marvel, the Avengers face the invasion of the galactic warlord Thanos. Terrific storytelling is augmented by superbly crafted visuals. Highlights include a splash of diverse alien lifeforms battling the Avengers (page 30) and the quietly introspective portraits of the heroes (pages 22-23). While the artwork alone is excellent, Starlin's impeccably designed layouts and sequences are even more impressive.
