Captain Marvel v2 #27, 1973 - Mentor and Eros (later Starfox), Thanos' father and brother, subsequently join forces with Captain Marvel. Jim Starlin begins to hit his stride on the series, using widely varying panels and innovative layouts. The machine-like frames (pages 3, 18) nicely contrast flashback scenes from the present day. The artist's three-panel close-up sequences are used throughout to heighten drama. This story was later reprinted in Life of Captain Marvel #2. Starlin's cover integrates two separate battle scenes within a single cohesive design. Previously appearing in one panel in Iron Man #55, Eros makes his first full appearance this issue. This is 3 of 12 Captain Marvel v2 issues by Starlin. /// key 1st full appearance, 1st cover Eros / Starlin gallery
